When California DJ Kaskade took to Twitter to encourage fans to kickstart an impromptu block party outside the LA premiere of a new film about the dance music culture, probably he was not expecting a full scale riot. But that's exactly what took place outside the world-famous Grauman's Chinese Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard at night after thousands of young people turned up to celebrate the debut screening of documentary film Electric Daisy Carnival experience.

Police donned riot gear and fired "riot beanbags" at the crowd after the call to disperse reportedly went unnoticed. Los Angeles Police shut down Hollywood Boulevard between Highland and Orange avenues, causing a massive traffic jam on the Highland, Hollywood and the 101 freeway, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Los Angeles television station KTLA reported that youths were fighting, threw bottles and set fire to a police car. A YouTube video filmed yesterday shows the revellers at the scene and police in riot gear. A shot fired and revellers begin running from the area.

Erika Raney, Communications Director for Insomniac, which organises electric Daisy Carnival, said in a statement: "we are disappointed that a small group of people would try to mar a personal documentary film screening of electric Daisy Carnival experience, and we are grateful that the LAPD was able to quickly restore order."

Electric Daisy Carnival experience documents annual electric Daisy Carnival, which is held on the last weekend in June each year. This year's event in Las Vegas was attended by more than 215,000 people, making it the biggest dance music festival outside Europe.
