How to get more coffee than you can drink

Forgive Jonathan Stark, if he seems a little caffeinated. In a unique crowd-sharing experiment, has this new father from Rhode Iceland in the United States persuaded more than 1,000 foreigners to contribute to the balance sheet of Starbucks his map.

The idea behind Starks map is simple: If you do not have money to buy coffeea, but you have a smartphone, you can download his Starbucks card barcode and make a purchase. Occasionally, Stark hopes you will give back – and so much more than 1,000 foreigners have ploughed over $ 11,000 (£ 6,760) back into the pot.

"Get a coffee, a cup of coffee" started with Stark, a mobile app consultant, play with Starbucks app. ' I trøde the fun that I managed to buy a cup of coffee with a picture, "he said. "I went to my blog, you put $ 20 in the card, uploaded barcode image and know all that, the next person on the Starbucks would get a free coffee."

A surprising number of people took him on offer – and after a while he noted the balance had gone. "Who freaked me as thought someone had hacked my account," remembers Stark. "It showed that one of the guys who would read my original post had discovered that you could put money anonymously on someone's card, as long as you had the number. That is, when the lightbulb went. I configure the site to the Twitter feed and last week it has gone from 100 followers to over 13,000. It is overwhelming.

Starbucks works with him to find the best way to use his card benefits that allow him a free drink after every 15 purchased. "Originally thought the free coffee would be added to the card, but it is not the case," he explains. "They will send you a postcard. At one point I had over 1,000 coffee owed so the plan is to wait until it dies a little, take a month of operations is work out what the money equivalent – it could be $ 10,000 or more – and give it to charity.
